Default The Forum has certainly been doomed

The loss of the link to the forums on the main page banner has pretty much killed it.

It's been fun.

This is what JM sent me:

nope. not exactly. but we are making some changes to the site and we've discussed dropping the vbulletin forums and creating a different type of system.

But yes, we do need to add the forum link back to the front page.

stay tuned.

Weeks go by and the link that used to be in the header is now buried well down the page, I'd say it's been written off.

It is what it is. This forum has a lot of valuable information that would be a bummer to lose. Honestly fellas... this is going to be gone soon.

Perhaps we startup a subreddit?

Jonathan made a comment a month or so back under an article on the front page, saying he wanted to keep the forums but wasn't sure how he was going to structure them in terms of the overall site, and that he was considering a different software package. Personally I think this one (vBulletin) works pretty well but then I haven't had to do any moderator work with it, and the account approval process does get pounded by spammers. Seems like some Turing hurdles (captcha, coi) would make most of the spammer sign-ups go away, and maybe Jonathan could find some user(s) to help out like K'Tesh has, with "super moderator" status.

I notice that there is a link on the homepage, not sure if it's new or not, but it's labeled "Portland Bike Forums Route Info and Advice" and it points to the Route Info forum. That forum has a new banner ad pinned at the top (advertising hosting at Codero.com) so maybe Jonathan is working on getting a bit more revenue out of this space.

Lots of hosting changes, too, from Hostgator to Codero to (now) Cloudflare.
